Decio Pasta is so delicious. If you have not had the opportunity to try some, please come check it out.
We have it in stock year round. It makes a delicious meal by itself or with a serving of meat. One of my favorites is salmon with the szechwan orange pasta. Another is a grilled burger with chilli cilantro pasta. A splash of olive oil is all that is needed on the pasta, the pureed vegetables flavor the pasta.

Old fashioned Shortcake

I just had to try a different type shortcake for some strawberries the other night.
I pulled out an old cookbook that I don't use very often.
This sounded interesting, it is baked in a cast iron pan.

1/3 cup butter, softened

1 cup sugar

2 cups flour

2 beaten eggs

1 cup milk

1 tsp vanilla

Mix all ingredients well and pat into greased 10" iron skillet, bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Cut into wedges and add your fresh fruit.

It was wonderful. You might want to try it with some fresh strawberries from the Ogle strawberry patch!
Enjoy.

2010 pickers and their "fruits of labor".

2009 pickers wanted to show off their selections!

I am getting nervous about this strawberry season. I sure hope you come out and hang in the patch with me this year.
It is good for the soul and body and mind!

I picked afew berries tonight, and oh, I sure enjoyed on some ice cream with peanuts, yum,yum.

I have to be gone tomorrow, but Randy will be here if anyone wants to wander this way.

The patch should be open for sure saturday or sunday for lots of "picking to go on".

The season is usually 22-25 days, so be sure to mark your calenders so that you are not one of those that have to call us in late June to exclaim, "we missed it?"

We provide the buckets to pick in and the boxes to take your berries home in.

So all you have to do is load your car with "picken fingers" and head on out to enjoy some sunshine. If you are unable to pick your strawberries, please call in advance to place your orders. (417-667-8691 or 417-667-5555) You can also email questions or orders to bobbi@bobbiogle.com.

Pineapple Casserole

We had this casserole at church yesterday and I wanted to share it with you. It was wonderful, and was told it is a great side dish for your Easter ham.

Pineapple Casserole

1 cup sugar
6 tablespoons flour
2 cups grated sharp Cheddar Cheese
2 20-oz. cans pineapple chunks, drained well (reserve 6 T juice)
1 1/2 cups Ritz cracker crumbs
8 T (1 stick) butter, melted

Combine sugar and flour. Gradually stir in cheese. Add pineapple and stir well. Pour mixture into a greased 9 x 13 casserole dish. (This can be done a day ahead and then proceed with the next step)

Combine cracker crumbs, butter, and pineapple juice and spread on top of pineapple mixture. Bake for 25 30 minutes at 350 or until golden brown. Serves 8 or more.

Computer bag!

I had a client wanting a padded bag to carry her new computer toy in.

This turned out just adorable! We had just gotten in this cute retro fabric and used it with a thick faux suede for the liner and cuff rather than the bulk of interlining. I also used the faux suede for the shoulder strap for comfort. The bag is spacious enough for a notepad or billfold if needed.

I went crazy a couple of weeks ago ordering jewelry, watches, and purses! The order came in yesterday. Some "cute" stuff! You have got to get out of the house, and head up to the square. The city has about got all the snow piles off the streets. Yesterday, I finally made it into the store, via the front door. I cannot figure out who owns the big parking lot in back, there is still snow on that lot.

My favorite soups are very brothy.
Here is one of my favorites.
Try using some grilled meat, cut up.
Add a can of rotel or diced tomatoes. (then add 2-3 cans of water)
A dash of olive oil.
A spoon of chicken or beef boulion (depending on what kind of meat you are using).
Either celery seed or chopped celery.
A bay leaf.
Fresh vegies, cut up.
(I use potatoes, cabbage, carrots) I have added a jar of Stonewall spicey corn relish for a jazzy splash of flavor (my friends love it)

Cook on medium for 1.5 - 2 hours.
Enjoy.

One of these arrangements went out the door last week, we liked it so well, we just had to create another one!

We used some long needled pine stems with some short pine as filler. We added some berries for color and a luscious gold mesh ribbon. For a little twist, we inserted some gold glittered ting ting.
The vase measures 23" and with the arrangements extends to approximately 40".

I had not made taffy for over 35 years, maybe even 40.

Last year, my sisters and I were discussing "pulling taffy" and never got it done.

Well, this week end, one of my sisters and nieces was here and WE DID IT. If you have not tried this, it is a great family activity and a great treat. My taffy was enjoyed by all at our potluck at St. Paul Lutheran today.

Onions!

LEFT OVER ONIONS ARE POISONOUS

I have used an onion which has been left in the fridge, and sometimes I don't use a whole one at one time, so save the other half for later.

Now with this info, I have changed my mind.....will buy smaller onions in the future.

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of mayonnaise. Mullins is huge, and is owned by 11 brothers and sisters in the Mullins family. My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO.

Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.

The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed. He's one of the brothers Ed is a chemistry expert and is involved in developing most of the sauce formula.. He's even developed sauce formula for McDonald's.

Keep in mind that Ed is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially- made Mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary." He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment.. He then talked about the quaint essential picnic, with the bowl of potato salad
sitting on the table and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade Mayo) that spoils in the outdoors.. It's probably the onions, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained, onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!)

Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

Oh my gosh!
We installed some of the new "easy wall" paper this week that Blonder puts out. It was so easy.
Dip and hang. No book time.
Beautiful patterns to pick from.

When this product was tested, they installed and removed one sheet 8 times, without damaging the strip of paper or the wall! I can believe it.

We picked about six gallon of strawberries yesterday. We are at the end of the season.

I totally forgot to update this blog the last two days, I was too busy peddling berries! Am so sorry I could not get them picked fast enough for the requests on thursday. We did a better job friday.

We could use some pickers in the patch today.

The rain last week has taken part of the patch, but there are still strawberries.

Fresh, home grown strawberries.

Time to come fetch. They are SoSoSo good this year.
And there so many of them. Bring you best bud out, or even your children or grandchildren, grab a bucket and get some sun. It is "easy picken" today.

Drive 3 miles south of Burger King and you are here, at the Strawberry Patch. As long as it is light out, we are open!

Strawberry season is only about 22 days long, procrastination is not an option. So often people want them in late June. You must get them now, freeze them, then you can have them in June, or even November! Make some jam when YOU have the time.

There was a group of young "moms" out to pick berries last night. I believe they had a great time on the "north deck" enjoying some chocolate dipped berries and conversation.

Today the sun will be out, there is not a cloud in the sky, put some sun screen on and get your fresh strawberries for the year. So many people get enough to freeze so they can enjoy this healthy fruit daily throughout the year.

It is an easy fruit to freeze. Then you can make your jams when your schedule permits.

Eat fresh, in smoothies, on ice cream, in a malt, dipped in chocolate, or how bout a pie or sliced in some romaine lettuce? I posted a great recipe for fruit bars, you will find in my archives on my website.

We got alot of picking done this morning before the rain came.

We are closed the rest of the day.

Hopefully we can get into the patch and pick some tomorrow, however, rain in in the forecast!

For sure come on out and pick as soon as the sun comes out.

I should be in the patch early friday morning. The plants should be "loaded" by then.

The patch has been picked today.

They are loaded with "almost ripe" and lots of green berries.

There is rain in the forcast, but we will pick when we can.

5-17-10 strawberry update

I would like to post daily how we are doing so that anyone interested can check the status of the patch on the blog.

It is slow going right now. The rain has ruined lots of the berries. Hopefully the sun will come out this week and dry up the patch.

We do have straw in between the rows so that it is not too wet while you are picking.

We start picking early in the day. And of course, we are here all day.

Please call if needed 667-8691 to check on things and to place an order. I had someone drive in first thing this morning for seven gallon! Needless to say, he left and came back to pick up his order.

Liven up an old shelf

Take an old shelf

Pick up a roll of wallpaper. (Interior Motives has lots of options)

Cut one long strip the length of all the shelves and backs, starting at the top and measuring down to the bottom.

Trim the paper if needed to match the width of the shelf.

Glue the shelve, dip the paper if it is prepasted.

Apply the paper to the shelf.

Chile Cilantro Pasta Recipe

Guido's Savory Sonoran

This recipe uses our Chile Cilantro or Red Bell Pepper Linguine to provide beautiful, rich flavor to this wonderful Mexican styled dish

Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1/2 pound chicken breast
1 green pepper (julienne)
1 red onion (julienne)
1 cup corn
1/2 cup black olives
1 teaspoon oregano
1 bunch cilantro (fresh chopped)
1 jalapeno sliced (optional)
Instructions

Saute olive oil, cloves, chicken breast, peppers, onion and corn. Add black olives, oregano and jalapeno. Simmer for 5 minutes and remove from heat. Add cilantro and salt and pepper to taste. Serve over DeCio Chile Cilantro or Red Bell Pepper Linguine.
